IFP Alum
Wawan Sobari received his master’s in Development Studies in 2006, and has since been published in the
Jakarta Post several times.
His most recent article explores local governments’ abuse of social assistance funds as reported by Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission.
Wawan is a Senior Researcher at Jawa Pos Institute of Pro-Otonomi (JPIP) and will soon be pursuing his PhD in Public Policy at Flinders University in Australia. JPIP is a non-profit, independent, think tank organization funded by Jawa Pos, the second largest newspaper in Indonesia.
Writes Wawan:
“As a Senior Researcher at JPIP, I conduct several tasks: designing research instruments, processing and analysing data, conducting fieldwork, presenting research findings, as well as policy advocacy related to government decentralization, and other local development initiatives.
Beginning in September 2011, I am going to pursue my PhD in public policy at the
Flinders Institute of Public Policy and Management (FIPPM), Faculty of Social Science. I am going to focus on the policy behavior of decision-makers at the local level. My overall objective is to critically evaluate public sector reform in Indonesia, and to present a new and different theoretical framework for governance, policy, and public sector reform in a developing country.”
