Indian Alumni Hold Social Justice Conference

  • February 2010

More than sixty IFP alumni from across India and 7 visiting alumni representatives from China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam attended the annual alumni meeting in Jaipur, India, February 20-21. The two-day general meeting and social justice conference was organized by the IFP India Alumni Network (IFPIAN) and the IFP New Delhi office.

Alumni networked across cohorts and the Asia-Russia regions, sharing ideas and initiating collaborations for social justice projects. They discussed the significant progress of the IFP India Alumni Network, now a registered not-for profit organization, and explored using Open Space Technology (OST) to strengthen collaboration among alumni.

IFPIAN also announced the results of the Social Justice Grant Competition for 2010. Three proposals were selected to receive funds of approximately $2,000 each to carry out social justice projects during the year. These include: (i) a project to provide low-cost assistive devices, customized rehabilitation aids and appliances to persons with disabilities in the state of Orissa; (ii) a project to impart legal training to empower representatives of marginalized communities in the state of Gujarat; and (iii) a project to offer financial and mentoring support to talented but financially marginalized school dropouts in a small district in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
