As a student in Madison, Wisconsin, South African Fellow Lesodi Legoabe is far from home. This year he launched a project to connect his university with South Africa, host of the 2010 World Cup. Legoabe organized a soccer gear donation drive for South Africa and launched a Wisconsin World Cup Kick-Off at the University of Wisconsin.

Legoabe writes: "The campaign will collect new and used soccer gear (balls, cleats, uniforms, shin guards and goalie gloves). The donated items will be shipped to South Africa and distributed to disadvantaged children so they can enjoy the pleasure of playing soccer." Legoabe has collaborated with the University Wellness Foundation and found a sponsor in Calabash Gifts, in honor of the newly erected Calabash Stadium at Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa. Distribution will be done through non-profit organizations in South Africa.
Legoabe has also enlisted the help of students from four middle schools in Madison. Teams of students will design and create fundraising efforts and projects to inform their communities about their efforts. The teams compete to fundraise to earn prizes from sponsors and learn about the historical and social significance of the World Cup, focusing on its impact on South Africa. "The goal of our league is to provide a safe and productive environment that enables children to learn and apply the principles of teamwork, discipline, dedication and sportsmanship."
